The Google Account login option was introduced to allow our users an easier way to create user accounts and log in on RateMDs. Whether you have an existing RateMDs account or not, you will be able to start linking your Google account for easy access.
This article will help to outline the different scenarios and what you can expect with a Google ID login.
What happens if I do not currently have a RateMDs account?
If you do not currently have an existing RateMDs account, you can choose to use a Google account to log in to RateMDs. No additional actions would be required.
How do I unlink my Google & RateMDs account?
Option 1 - Through RateMDs
To unlink your Google ID login from RateMDs:
- Please login to RateMDs using your Google account.
- Click on the user account icon located in the top right-hand corner, followed by "My Account".
- At the bottom of the screen, you will see your Connected (or linked) Accounts, click on the "Unlink my Google account" button to complete the unlinking process.
Since your only log-in option was through your Google ID, you will be prompted to create a password afterward. If you choose to enter a new password, a RateMDs account will be created using your Google email address and the password you have just entered. This password does not need to match your Google ID.
You will be able to use your Google email and this new password to log in to RateMDs from now on.
Option 2 - Through Google
You may also choose to unlink your Google account from your RateMDs account from your Google preferences. To do this, please refer to Google's guide and follow the steps provided.
What happens if I have an existing RateMDs account?
When clicking on the log-in option, the following screen will pop up showing two options - Continue with Google ID login or through your existing RateMDs account login.
If you already have an existing RateMDs account whose email is different from your Google account, we would recommend that you do not “continue with google”. Instead, log in using your RateMDs account at this stage. You can properly link the two accounts afterward by following the steps listed below.
If you do decide to continue to log in using your Google ID while you have an existing RateMDs account, a new account will be created using your Google ID email. This will result in two separate accounts, a new account with Google ID login and your existing RateMDs account. Since your accounts will be viewed as two separate accounts in our system, you will not be able to link your Google ID to your RateMDs account. If this is the case, please contact us and we can delete the Google ID account so you can properly link your Google ID to your existing RateMDs account.
For example,
Your RateMDs account email is [email protected]
Your Google ID email is [email protected]
If you continue to log in using your Google ID [email protected] while your existing RateMDs is [email protected], a new RateMDs account with created using [email protected] that is not connected to your existing [email protected]. This will result in the inability to properly link these two accounts.
